Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation in large intestine mucosa, and sores or ulcers.
In our company, NISSEI BILIS Co., Ltd., pharmacological effects are evaluated using mouse ulcerative colitis models caused by drinking dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) solution.
In preventive evaluation, drinking of DSS solution and dosing of test articles are started at the same time.
In therapeutic evaluation, initiation of test article dosing is delayed from DSS drinking for a few days after proceeding of symptoms to some extent.
In both evaluations, following items are assessed; colitis score during study period, blood inflammatory cytokine, length and weight of isolated large intestine, histopathological test.
