Myocardial infarction is the result from coronary artery occlusion with thrombus or plaque.
Surgical permanent or temporary coronary artery ligation in rats can recreate human myocardial infarction. After recreating the disease models, left ventricular dilation, reduction of cardiac function, and myocardial fibrosis are observed.
In case of evaluation of remodeling, four-week study period is the standard. We can measure cardiac function, or evaluate fibrosis area ratio in dissected heart, etc.
